Busy summer for Gibraltar’s national teams

This summer proves to be be a busy few months of travelling and playing for Gibraltar’s national teams, with teams from Under 11’s to the men’s national team all in action.

 

This Saturday, the Gibraltar Under 11’s travel to Ceuta to contest the football in the Strait Games, where the potential stars of Gibraltar’s footballing future will get a chance to show their potential against strong competition.

 

From the 1st to the 6th July, the Gib Under 13’s takes part in the Iber Cup.  The tournament, held in Estoril, Portugal, consists of teams from 40 countries, with the youth teams of the likes of Inter Milan, Lyon, Malaga, Sporting Lisbon and Atletico de Madrid taking part at the various youth levels available.

 

At Under 16 level, Gibraltar travels to Albania for a competition between the 16th and 20th of June, where they will compete against the hosts, San Marino, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein.  This will be a good practice ahead of the upcoming Under 17 qualifiers in the autumn.

 

The Under 19 team, who only lost 1-0 to the Republic of Ireland in March, travel to Marbella to face Cuba Under 20’s on the 16th June.  The game will provide a tough challenge for Gibraltar, especially as Cuba will be using this game to prepare for their FIFA Under 20 World Cup campaign, which starts days after this friendly.

 

Finally, the national team face off against Charlton at the Victoria Stadium on the 10th July. Other friendlies are in the pipeline, now that UEFA membership is confirmed, but nothing has been announced as of yet.

 

A bright, and busy future ahead for Gibraltar’s best, as well as the potential stars of the national team.
