Rock Cup Results – One shock

Last midweek saw the Rock Cup take priority, with 4 first division sides and 4 second division sides making up the quarter finals.

After the quarter finals, we are now down to 2 first division teams, and 2 second division teams, in Gibraltar’s equivalent of the FA Cup.  The biggest surprise was Sporting Club leaving it late to knock out Premier Division side St Joseph’s 2-1.  Britannia also comfortably saw off the threat of Cannons FC in a one-sided 4-0 victory, to leave the two second division sides remaining.

Lincoln were almost given a scare as they went from 3-0 up to win 3-2 against 2nd division table toppers Gib Pilots, who had two shots on target all game, both hitting the back of the net.  Glacis also saw off Gib Utd 3-1 in the all 1st Division match.

Results:

Britannia 4-0 Cannons

Sporting 2-1 St Josephs

Lincoln 3-2 Gib Pilots

Gib Utd 1-3 Glacis United

As of yet the GFA website has not published results for the weekends fixtures, or the semi final draw of the Rock Cup.  More as that comes in.

Squad for Faroe Islands match announced + Rock Cup upset

Allen Bula has selected a 20 man training squad in preparation for the friendly match against the Faroe Islands on the 11th March.

At a press conference, alongside team captain Daniel Duarte, GFA president Gareth Latin and GFA General Secretary Richard Manning, he announced the following training squad:

J. Perez, P.Reyes, J.Borg, R. Casciaro, B. Perez, R. Chipolina, M.Reoch, D. Hammond, S. Mascarenhas, Y. Santos, A. Payas, D. Duarte, W. Asquez, R. Guilling, K. Casciaro, S. Garro, E. Green, A. Hernandez, B. Perez, J. Chipol, A. Greene, L. Casciaro, G. Lopez, M. Yome, L. Muscatt, P.Podesta, T. Charay, K. Chipolina.

It was also announced that a friendly quadrangular tournament was secured for November, with touring teams from the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey, 3 of the nations competing in this summers Island Games at the Isle of Wight.  Presumably more on this will appear a lot closer to the date of the tournament.

The Rock Cup saw unbeaten second division side Gib Pilots cause the shock of the night, beating Premier side Manchester United 5-4 on penalties, after the game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.  Gib Pilots, who are now unbeaten in 14 games this season, look favourites to go up, and put in an impressive performance against more illustrious opposition.

In the other Rock Cup match that took place, Lincoln saw off Lynx FC once again, although unlike the 9-1 in the Premier Cup, this score was a more respectable 2-0.
