Squad for Faroe Islands and Estonia friendlies announced

National manager Allen Bula this morning announced his squad for the upcoming friendlies against the Faroe Islands and Estonia, with six players based outside of the Rock called up.

Recently retired Danny Higginbotham, who agreed to play these two games before fully hanging up his boots, alongside Wycombe’s Reece Styche and Wrexham’s David Artell, both uncapped, are in the squads for both games, whilst Will Britt of Southampton, Bnei Yehuda’s Liam Walker and Preston’s Scott Wiseman are available for the Estonia games only.

The inclusion of three new uncapped, recently naturalised players will undoubtedly cause debate, but if they put in a performance as good as Higginbotham, Wiseman and Adam Priestley did in the 0-0 draw vs Slovakia, complaints will surely drop fairly quietly.

Squad for the Faroes game:

Goalkeepers: Jordan Perez (Lincoln), Jamie Robba (Lynx) and Kevin De Los Santos (Man United 62).
Defenders: Roy Chipolina (Lincoln), Ryan Casciaro (Lincoln), Matt Reoch (Man United 62), Danny Higginbotham (retired), Jack Sergeant (Man United 62), David Artell (Wrexham [Wales*]) and Yogen Santos (Man United 62).
Midfielders: Robert Guilling (Lincoln), Joseph Chipolina (Lincoln), Jeremy Lopez (Man United 62), Aaron Payas (Lincoln), Tyson Ruiz (Lynx) and Liam Clarke (Lincoln).

Squad for the Estonia game:

Defenders: Roy Chipolina (Lincoln), Ryan Casciaro (Lincoln), Matt Reoch (Man United 62), Danny Higginbotham (retired), Jack Sergeant (Man United 62), Scott Wiseman (Preston North End [England]), David Artell (Wrexham [Wales*]) and Yogan Santos (Man United 62).

  1. Great … too bad there are not, however, the other 2 professionals playing abroad: Gosling of Exeter and Coulibaly Neftochimik of Burgas!

    I found them here: http://www.transfermarkt.it/it/suche/detailsuchespieler/suche.html?searchId=903710

Let’s hope so … it marks the first goal and maybe you might even get the first national historic victory by officially recognized by UEFA! Meanwhile, in a couple of days we would have the draw for Europeans!

    • Gosling had been mentioned as a possible player, but wasn’t chosen this time around. As for Coulibaly, must admit have never heard of him. Interesting to see if he will be called up, the Bulgarian top league is a decent standard of competition.

  2. Allen Bula statement:

My aim is to take Gibraltar to the Finals of UEFA Nations in France, in 2016.”

“ . .. . and I’ll do whatever it takes, even if that means strengthening the team with outside players, qualified of course!”

That will mean putting up a winning performance in the UEFA qualifiers next season – against international opponents to be decided at the Draw in Nice, France on 23rd February.

have someone else in the viewfinder seriously?? nobody knows who?

  3. Astounded by the amount of criticism over the squad selection. Surely sentimentality and only picking local born / based players is a thing of the past now, and you have got to get as much experience and quality in there as possible. From what I’ve seen, the local league is nowhere near able to provide that.
