Danny Higginbotham retires from football

Gibraltar international defender Danny Higginbotham has confirmed his retirement from football with immediate effect, just days after joining Skrill North side Altrincham.

In a statement on the Robins website, Higginbotham confirms that his 17-year football career has come to a close, and that despite only joining Altrincham six days ago, he could simply not continue playing, stating that he was: “almost like I’ve been going through the motion”

The 35 year old has not officially confirmed his retirement from the Gibraltar national team, although it safe to assume from that statement that the Manchester-born defender won’t add to the one cap he earned in the 0-0 draw against Slovakia.

Higginbotham is expected to focus fully on his media duties now, and I’m sure everyone in Gibraltar wishes him the best in his endeavours.
