Czech Republic defeated Gibraltar 3-0 today in the second game of the Under 19 qualifiers in Ostrava.
Goals from Hamburg’s Dominik Masek, Sparta Prague’s Patrik Schick and Lukas Buchvaldek, of Sigma Olomouc ensured the hosts have all but qualified from their group. A win from Croatia against Cyprus later on would confirm both them and the Czech’s qualify with a game spare.
Gibraltar battled admirably though, and even goalkeeper Liam Neale coming off injured just before half time did not affect matters in the way some may have feared. Replacement Dayle Coeling kept goal well and ensured that the score remained low.
Once again, Gibraltar had held their opponents to a stalemate for 40 minutes, but even after Masek’s goal, the floodgates did not open. The performance should give the team encouragement before Tuesday’s final game against Cyprus U19’s, kicking off at 5pm Gibraltar time.
