Gibraltar Under 19’s fell to a 6-0 friendly defeat against a tough Bulgarian Under 19 side in Sofia this afternoon.
The Bulgarian team, largely composed of players playing for professional teams in Bulgaria such as CSKA Sofia and Chernomorets, had a superb start to the friendly, as they rushed to a 4-0 lead within 20 minutes of the game.
Gibraltar managed to stem the flow of goals for the remainder of the first half, and had chances themselves to reduce the deficit before heading in to the break 4-0 down.
The second half saw two further goals for the Bulgarians, who are preparing for an U19 qualifying group with Albania, Greece and Slovakia next month. The result, whilst not ideal, will give the team an idea of just how tough the competition they are set to face will be. They head off to Ostrava tomorrow, ahead of their first game, on Thursday, against Croatia U19.
Gibraltar U19 XI: Neale, Ballester, Pons, Coombes, Parker, Sergeant, Victor, Hernandez, Ballantine, Migge, Victory.
