Gibraltar U19 0-1 Republic of Ireland U19

A last minute penalty miss consigned Gibraltar to a narrow 1-0 defeat against a vastly more experienced Ireland Under 19 side.

Ireland, who scored thanks to Luke Gallagher of Burnley (on loan at Droylsden) showed their class and professionalism throughout, but Gibraltar competed with their Irish opponents excellently throughout, and it was only a smart penalty save that denied Gib what would have been a highly credible draw.

For Gibraltar, who had 10 16-year-olds in their 20 man squad, tonight was a deep learning curve in to the level of competition they’ll face at youth level should they get into UEFA, however they showed undoubtedly that they are ready, and able to compete.
