Liam Walker came on as a substitute, and scored in the shoot out for Portsmouth in their 4-3 penalty win against Bournemouth in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy first round match.
For Liam (and possibly any Gibraltarian footballer), this was his first match to be aired live on Sky Sports, and he put in an assured cameo, keeping play going with a number of decent passes and flicks. He came on when Portsmouth were 2-1 down, but by the end of the game, the score was 2-2 after a lovely goal from fellow midfielder Brian Howard.
He also scored an impressive penalty in the shoot out, which saw Portsmouth win 4-3 against their South Coast rivals, and advance to the second round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, in their first ever appearance in the competition.
Highlights of the entire game will air at various times on Wednesday on the Sky Sports channel, but Liam’s penalty (alongside the rest of them) is already available to view on YouTube (watch from 2 minutes onwards for Liam’s penalty)
Liam won’t potentially have to wait long for his next appearance on the Sky cameras, as Portsmouth are again on Sky Sports 1 away at newly promoted Crawley, on Sunday. That game has a 4:30pm kick off Gib time, with pre match coverage against starting 15 minutes beforehand.
