The opening game of the Gibraltar Under 16 Festival Cup saw Gibraltar advance to Saturday mornings final with a 3-0 win over San Roque.
The first half saw no goals, and whilst Gib had the better of the opening exchanges, San Roque soon took control of the game, despite neither keeper being forcibly tested in the first 45.
The second half saw a number of substitutions for Gib, and it was one of those subs, Jamie Coombes who got the first goal with a decent, low shot beating the San Roque keeper.
Coombes was very handy in the 45 minutes he played, and Gib ensured the victory with two further goals. Cramp noticeably became an issue, and despite the referee needlessly adding on a fair few minutes of added time when players were clearly struggling (a discussion for another I believe), Gib saw out the game with 11 men (albeit with a substitute keeper up front) and won, to the pleasure of the 300 or so fans in attendance.
On Saturday (a 10am kick off) Gib play the winners of Malaga CF U16’s vs Vitoria Guinares U16, who meet tomorrow, before the Gib senior team play Cadiz B in their semi final.
