Football Gibraltar

The first blog on football in Gibraltar, up since March 2010

Division Structure

The following is the division structure, and the teams in each division (the brackets indicate if more or less teams are in the league from last season:

Premier(same as last season):
Lincoln
Glacis
Man Utd
St Joseph
Stan James
Lions Gibraltar (combination of Lions and Gib United)

2nd Division (Down 2)
Sporting Club
Leo’s Parilla
Lynx
Fc Britannia XI
College
Red Imps
Pegasus
Cannons
Chelsea
Lions Gib Pilots

Reserve (down 1):
Glacis
St Joseph
Man Utd
College
Lincoln
Chelsea
Stan James
Lions Gib

Womens(down 1):
Glacis
Man Utd
College

As you can see, the league system is down 4 teams this season, although it is understandable. The biggest drop is Gib United who had to disband, presumably due to a lack of players, as many of the team would have been of university age this season, hence Lions Gibraltar being the 6th team this season, an amalgamation of the two clubs, for the benefit of those involved.

The season is set to start tomorrow, with Lincoln set to play Glacis in the Pepe Reyes Cup; the traditional season opener.
